Terms of Service

Effective 2 September 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and PlotPoint for the use of PlotPoint — the plotpoint.ca website and the PlotPoint mobile app. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

They are written to be read. If something here seems unreasonable, email hello@mg.plotpoint.ca and say so.

What PlotPoint is

PlotPoint lets you keep a personal library of films, television, books and games — marking what you have Saved, what is In progress and what you have Completed, rating it, and writing notes about it.

PlotPoint is an early-stage product under active development. Features will appear, change and occasionally be removed. We will avoid destroying your data in the process, and we will tell you before any change that would.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use PlotPoint. If the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to online services, you must meet that age instead. By using the service you confirm you do.

Your account

  • Give accurate details. Use an email address you actually control, since it is how we reach you and how you recover access.
  • Keep your credentials to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.
  • One person per account. Accounts are personal. Do not share, sell or transfer yours.
  • Pick a reasonable username. Do not impersonate anyone, and do not choose something that would be unlawful or abusive if displayed.

Your content stays yours

Your library, your ratings and your notes belong to you. We claim no ownership of them.

You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your content, to process it, and to display it back to you on your devices. That permission exists so the software can function, ends when you delete the content or your account, and does not extend to publishing your content, using it in marketing, or training anything on it.

Today PlotPoint shows your library only to you. If you later choose to use a sharing or public-profile feature, you will be choosing to publish that content at that point.

Importing from other services

You can import your library from services such as Goodreads, Letterboxd, Storygraph, Backloggd and MyAnimeList. When you do, you confirm that you are entitled to export that data and bring it here.

Imports are matched automatically against catalogue data, and matching is imperfect. Check the results — we cannot guarantee that every row lands on the right title, and we are not liable for mismatches in imported data.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Break the law, or use PlotPoint to help anyone else break it.
  • Attempt to access another person’s account or data, or probe, scan or test the security of the service without our written permission.
  • Scrape, crawl or bulk-extract data from the service, or use automated means to create accounts.
  • Interfere with the service’s operation, including by overwhelming it with requests or circumventing our rate limits.
  • Upload anything unlawful, or a profile picture that infringes someone else’s rights. Remember that profile pictures are stored at publicly reachable addresses.
  • Resell or commercially redistribute the service or the catalogue data within it.

Catalogue data and attribution

Descriptions, cover art, posters, credits and review scores in PlotPoint come from third-party sources and remain the property of those sources or their licensors. We display that material under their API terms; you may use it inside PlotPoint for your own personal library and not otherwise.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Game data is provided by IGDB, book data by ISBNdb and Open Library, and review scores by OMDb.

We do not control this data and cannot guarantee it is accurate or complete.

Emails we send

When you create an account we send you a welcome email. We may also send you email that is necessary to operate your account, such as a password reset you requested or a notice about these terms.

You can control optional email in Settings. Account and security messages are not optional for as long as you have an account.

Availability

PlotPoint is provided as it is, when it is available. We do not offer an uptime guarantee, and we may suspend the service for maintenance, or change or discontinue features, without liability to you.

We depend on outside providers for hosting, storage, authentication and catalogue data. When one of them has an outage, part or all of PlotPoint may stop working until they recover.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. You can ask us for an export at any time.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using PlotPoint whenever you like. To delete your account and its contents, email hello@mg.plotpoint.ca and we will do it within 30 days — there is no self-service delete button yet.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Except where you have seriously breached these terms or the law prevents us, we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to retrieve your data.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, PlotPoint is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that catalogue data will be accurate.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither PlotPoint nor anyone operating it will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or lost goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty Canadian dollars. PlotPoint is currently free, so for most users this is the latter.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law permits.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will update the effective date and give you notice by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using PlotPoint after that, you accept the new terms; if you do not accept them, delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove any mandatory protection you have under your own local law.

The rest

  • Whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about PlotPoint.
  • Severability. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a successor if PlotPoint changes hands, and will tell you if that happens.
  • Contact. Questions about these terms go to hello@mg.plotpoint.ca.
